
Less than a decade after completing her animal science degree at Berry, Dr. Emily Melchior (16C) has built a reputation as a rising star in animal health research with a demonstrated commitment to investing in the development of those following in her footsteps.
Manager of global outcomes research at Zoetis Animal Health, Emily is recognized as a leading expert in ruminant microbiology, nutrition and vaccination strategies in cow/calf production systems. She has been elected to serve on the National Board of Directors for the American Society of Animal Science, a role through which she helps shape programming for the organization's annual meeting. She also is a member of the Animal Science Council on Accreditation.
Emily holds a Master of Science degree from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville and a Ph.D. from New Mexico State University. She has an extensive publication record and has earned numerous awards and honors, including the 2020 National Cattlemen's Foundation's W.D. Farr Scholarship and the 2022 American Society of Animal Science Young Scholar Award. She also received "30 under 30" recognition from Cowgirl Magazine, which honors "innovators, leaders and trailblazers who open doors for others, share their enthusiasm and embody the qualities that keep the Western industry thriving."
The former Berry Bonner Scholar and Berry Center for Integrity in Leadership's Carper Mentoring Program participant routinely invests in young professionals through mentorship. She collaborated with Zoetis colleagues to establish a group to help early-career professionals navigate the transition from academic research into the professional animal science industry. She is also an active volunteer with the Women's Adventure Club of Parker, Colorado, as a trail guide for outdoor activities supporting women's mental health.
